Digital Foundry's Thomas Morgan recently put Bloodborne through its paces on the ShadPS4 emulator, analyzing its performance and the impact of community-created modifications.
His evaluation utilized ShadPS4 build 0.5.1 by diegolix29, stemming from raphaelthegreat's custom branch. After testing various builds, Morgan, using an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X and GeForce RTX 4080 system, found this iteration offered optimal results.
To mitigate visual glitches manifesting as distorted or misplaced polygons, Morgan advises installing the Vertex Explosion Fix mod. While this mod disables pre-game character face customization, it effectively resolves these graphical issues. No other mods are deemed essential; ShadPS4's built-in menu provides extensive enhancement options, including 60fps support, resolutions up to 4K, and chromatic aberration toggles.
While occasional stutters were present, Morgan observed largely consistent 60fps performance. Experiments with 1440p and 1800p resolutions yielded improved visual fidelity but at the cost of significant performance drops and frequent crashes. Therefore, he suggests sticking to 1080p (native PS4 resolution) or 1152p for the best balance.
Morgan concluded that ShadPS4's ability to run Bloodborne is a remarkable feat of emulation, praising its overall functionality despite remaining technical challenges.
