Denuvo DRM Will Be Removed From inZOI

The developer of inZOI has confirmed that Denuvo DRM will be taken out of the game. Over the past day, multiple reports indicated that the Creative Studio mode demo included the anti-tamper software. The use of Denuvo in video games has long been a contentious issue, with many experts and players claiming it negatively impacts performance.

This digital rights management and anti-tamper technology is intended to stop unauthorized copying and distribution of PC games, making it harder for individuals to pirate and share cracked versions.

In a Steam blog post dated March 26, inZOI Director Hyungjun ‘Kjun’ Kim responded to player concerns. He confirmed that the Early Access version, scheduled for release on Friday, will ship without any DRM. "Our original decision to use Denuvo was to guard against illegal distribution. We thought it would help protect the investment of players who bought the game legitimately. But after carefully reviewing community feedback, we recognized that this decision wasn’t in line with player expectations," Kjun explained.

He also apologized for failing to notify players in advance that Denuvo would be part of the Creative Studio mode. Kjun noted that although removing DRM could result in more piracy, it also allows inZOI to be fully configurable—giving players greater freedom to customize and shape their own gameplay. "We believe that providing this level of flexibility from the start will encourage creative and lasting engagement within the community," he added.

inZOI Aims to Be a Game That Embraces Modding

inZOI has consistently emphasized the value of modding, which is why the initial inclusion of Denuvo confused many players, since the software restricts the ability to install mods and apply customizations.

Kjun reinforced the studio's commitment, saying, "As shared during the Online Showcase, our goal is to make inZOI a game that supports modding at a high level. The first phase of official mod support is set to go live in May, enabling players to use tools like Maya and Blender to design their own content. This is just the starting point—we intend to broaden modding support to other parts of the game over time, so you can personalize and improve your experience in a variety of ways."

He also mentioned that a dedicated post will follow with additional modding details. Krafton remains focused on putting players first, taking community input into account and refining the experience accordingly.

inZOI is scheduled to enter Early Access on March 28, 2025, for PC. The full launch is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. As of now, a specific date for the full release has not been announced.
